This museum on navigation and shipbuilding is the oldest in the Netherlands, tracing the beginnings of the collections to the late 18th. The collections now include instruments of navigation, maps, drawings and paintings, globes, etc. The building has exhibition spaces as well as a library and archives. The structure, as explained by Architectural Guide to Rotterdam (77), is one half of a square bisected along the diagonal with its oblique side toward the harbor. Half tucked in under this side is a double-height exhibition area." | ||
