St. Mary's Cathedral was designed late in this Italian engineer/architect's career. (He died in 1979 at age 87.) Still, it illustrates qualities he is famous for--the signature use of ferro-cemento (a core of steel mesh with cement mortar brushed on top of it), sculptural forms, parabolic arches (four 190-foot paraboloids roof the interior), and "lacework" designs in interiors.
The sanctuary, seating 2500, rests on a base which contains meeting rooms, a rectory, and other services.
