YWCA--Interior

Julia Morgan
1913-15

The central courtyard and second-floor hallway surrounding it

The center of the building features a brightly-lit atrium. According to Boutelle, it was "modeled on the outdoor courtyard of Donato Bramante's church of Santa Maria della Pace in Rome" (97).

Square and round columns alternate on the second floor, the square columns repeating the piers of the first floor. Biblical quotations are located on the frieze.

The Assembly Room

The inner wall of the Assembly Room echoes the window treatment of the opposite wall. Decorative foliate brackets and boxed beams add to the elegance of the room.
