Julia Morgan

The entrance gatewayThe three-story hospital is located on an entire city block on a hill. The brick building with a tile roof is vaguely Mediterranean in style. Like many of her works, it was designed around a courtyard. The entrance gateway, also designed by Morgan, was donated by Morgan's mother (Eliza Morgan) in memory of her son Sam, Julia's younger brother, who died at age twenty-six in 1913.

The entranceLike many of her buildings, this hospital uses polychrome tile as a decorative element, both in the piers supporting the entranceway and around windows and as a frieze at the top of the building.
