The undulating movements and sculptural effects are characteristic of Baroque architecture. One of the most theatrical practitioners of the Baroque style, Borromini is said to have eliminated the corner in architecture. The door in the convex central bay is echoed by the convex window enframement in the upper story. A statue of St. Charles Borromeo, added later, occupies the lower story niche, which is echoed by the medallion in the upper story. Herms with angel heads and arched wings frame the niche. |
