Michelozzo, the special architect for Cosimo di Medici, is known for his quiet, restrained, and rational architecture. Here the pietra serena (literally serene stone) is combined with white stucco for a dignified effect in this cloister. The cloister is just to the right of the church and in the second story above the porch on the sides opposite and adjoining the church, one can see the small windows of the cells the monks inhabited.
