Unlike many of Richardson's "Romanesque" buildings, Sever Hall is simple and symmetrical. It uses red brick, similar to that of other buildings in the Harvard yard, and abandons the polychromy Richardson so often used. Fenestration, too, is more orderly and symmetrical.
