The spiral designs in plaster give the effect of Solomonic capitals, also characteristic of Spanish Baroque.

The cloister At the center of the ruined cloister is the Fuente de Peces, the largest fountain in the city and said to be the largest in Latin America. The perimeter almost occupies the entire cloister. Supposedly it is constructed in the shape of a water lily, and the middle column with its bowl is about twenty feet high.
