Built by the GDR, this tower was applauded as a symbol: "a work of the working people." At 1207 feet, it is the second highest building in the European Union. (The Riga Radio and TV Tower in Riga, Latvia is the tallest tower in the European Union.) The sphere, at a diameter of 105 feet, has a visitors' platform and a revolving restaurant in the middle. The dome is tiled stainless steel.
