The German state of Hessen, whose most important city is Frankfort am Main, has this "embassy" in the central city--although a distance from the Tiergarten where many national embassies are located. Although there was a Europe-wide competition for the design, the winners ultimately were from Frankfort. And the building itself is clad with sandstone from the Hesse area. The building is essentially "late modern" with flat roof and extensive glazing, although the windows in different sizes have a kind of syncopated effect--they are not just ordinary ribbon windows! The drama is in the cantilevered porch over the entrance (which supports in part the third and fourth storeys) pictured below and the striking inverted "L" cantilever of the fifth floor on the side.
