European Court of Human Rights

Lord Richard Rogers and Claude Bucher (Strasbourg)
1994

Rogers is often defined as a high tech architect, seen of course in Pompidou Centre, which he designed with Renzo Piano, and more strikingly in the Lloyd's Building in London. High tech architecture often exposes the structure and here structural elements are emphasized in bright red. High tech architects are often concerned with natural light and environmental concerns. The entrance hall is filled with natural light and the site, along the river, provides natural views.

Large circular chambers house the two main organs of the court, the court and commission

Offices are located in a long section behind the building.

Please note that the view of the rear of the building (right photograph) is from Wikimedia and was wonderfully photographed by Ralf Roletschek.
