St. George, Bloomsbury

This church in Bloomsbury was one of twelve churches actually built under the Act passed in 1711 to build 50 new churches. It honors the monarch George I with his statue on the top of the steeple.
		View of the portico and the tower standing north of the church The deep Roman porch is raised on a flight of steps. It features six huge Corinthian columns, two rows deep and a coffered ceiling.
		The steeple The unusual steeple is based on Pliny's account of the Tomb of Mausolus at Halicarnassus, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. a statue of George I tops the steeple.
