Cheney Block

1875-76

Richardson designed this seven-story building with two arcades, each with three stories, and an attic. The five wide arches on the lower register have coupled arches above them. The two end bays in the top register have three arches while the central portion of the top register has arches with double colonnettes alternating with a single one.
		A monumental "Romanesque" building This monumental structure was a rehearsal for the later and more famous Marshall Field Building (1885-87).

The second register windows The trim here is the reverse of his more usual procedure--the use of light stone with dark trim.
The top register and left and right towers. The two ends are asymmetrical.
