1870-1883
The wonderful images below (first row) of the Brooklyn Bridge, the East River, and the skyline of New York City, as it WAS before the attacks on the World Trade Center, were photographed by my friend Bob Byrne. He owns the copyright and should be contacted directly if you are interested in the use of his photographs: Bob Byrne.
This steel cable suspension bridge is gigantic in scale with a central span of 1595 feet--half again longer than the previous record--and a total length of more than 6000 feet. The roadbed is 135 feet above the water. The double-arched Gothic towers are 171 feet high and the bridge is 85 feet wide.
