Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change

The Center serves several functions. It is a meditative memorial site with Dr. King's white marble tomb placed in the center of the reflecting pool on a circular brick base. The barrel-vaulted arcade on one side, the Freedom Walkway, leads to Freedom Hall, a two-story exhibit space. Other buildings serve administrative functions for the Center for Nonviolent Social Change.

Left and right: the Chapel of All Faiths; center: the beginning of Freedom Walkway with Dr. King's tomb to the left Freedom Walkway is comprised of repeated sections of concrete barrel vaults with brick undersides. Plans originally included adding murals telling the Dr. King story along this colonnade, which borders the entire length of the site.
