| A footbridge supported by ten cables crosses Lincoln Memorial drive and provides a dramatic entrance for the museum. According to Alexander Tzonis, "the cable-stay bridge builds on the traditional vertical pylon plan to extend the span to 73 meters. Its 50-meter high spine stands at a 47-degree incline and provides a partial counterbalance to the bridge deck. A geometric arrangement of the return anchorage cables enables the mast to carry the entire load and accentuates the kinetic transition from street-bound movement to soaring flight" (200-02). | |||
